Love Notes and Sea Shells

California couple Taila and Ryan chose Sugar Beach Events venue as the setting for their wedding day. The weather was perfect, the sunset dramatic and the sound of the ocean waves just added to the naturally beautiful ambience. They knew from the very beginning that they wanted a destination wedding, and with Taila’s family originally from Hawaii, they, of course, chose Maui.

Taila and Ryan decided on Sugar Beach Events as their venue because “it is an intimate venue that offers more privacy and is less mainstream than a hotel.” Taila and Ryan wanted to have a classy, yet casual wedding with the natural beauty and romance of the island as their backdrop. It’s hard to beat the romance of this island oasis.

Denise Black, Sugar Beach Event’s principal wedding designer, worked closely with Bride Taila in setting the tone with romantic color choices of whites with accents of light blue. Mahalo to the photographer, Chris J. Evans Photography, for the gorgeous photos.

Lacey and Romantic

Taila wore a David’s Bridal gown that was lace with a satin cafe=colored lining underneath. The lining was completely backless, but the lace overlay prevented it from showing too much skin and kept it a little more modest.

Taila’s hair was worn down with flowing loose waves held behind her ear with a Hawaiian plumeria and natural makeup.

Wedding Inspiration

“We didn’t really have a specific vision for our wedding. We knew that we wanted something classy and clean. We went with white and kept it very basic and beachy. It was perfect.”

Special Details

A dear friend of the couple is a surf board designer and shaper. He made them a special wedding gift… a custom surf board for all the wedding guests to sign. The surf board would then be glazed afterwards and then hung in their house for the perfect souvenir of their beautiful wedding on Maui.

Taila’s aunt and uncle also gifted the couple with something special for the wedding day… they painted love quotes by hand that were given to all the guests as a favor, a truly unique memento for a beautiful day.

Sweet Beach-Side Ceremony At Sugar Beach

The lush green lawn was the perfect location for a sun-kissed outdoor wedding by the ocean. The ceremony was accented with a canopy with flowing white drapery, tiki torches and the aisle was lined with fresh white petals. The Hawaiian tradition of the lei exchange was incorporated into the ceremony to symbolize their love for each other, respect and… aloha. Hawaiian music played by a ukulele player filled the air with a spirit of aloha, as two became one.

Taila and Ryan felt especially honored at how many people flew so far for their special day. “Looking around and seeing all these people who have touched our lives in different ways, all coming together for one day, just for us – really made us feel special.”

Wedding Advice From Taila and Ryan

“Our advice would be to get married at Sugar Beach Events. We had zero stress, every thing was beautiful and taken care of for us. Ultimately, whether you are doing a destination wedding or not, find someone that you trust that can hire to help you plan and coordinate – they are professionals and so they know what to do, it takes so much pressure off of the couple and allows you to just really enjoy your wedding.”
