It was a gorgeous day beside the ocean for Lauren and Stuart’s beach wedding in Maui. With a gathering of family and friends that flew in from Vancouver, Canada, it was a day that sparkled with intimate moments and deep expressions of love. Lauren and Stuart decided on getting married in Maui (getting Maui’d) after their repeated annual trips to our beautiful island. Lauren said it was an easy decision.
Lauren and Stu wanted the theme of the wedding to be relaxed, rustic, and comfortable. Lauren said, “The gorgeous setting of Sugar Beach Events was the foundation of our inspiration; with the beach and palm trees we envisioned an outdoor wedding, with ocean colors, a rustic feel, and romantic details. The most important aspect to it all for us was that everyone was stress free, comfortable and happy – barefeet were highly encouraged!” Denise Black, Sugar Beach Event’s principal wedding designer, worked closely with the bride to get across that feeling through Bride Lauren’s romantic color choices of whites with accents of lavender and purples and details of the decor. Mahalo to the photographer, Christie Graham Photography, who also flew in all the way from Vancouver to capture this special day.
Relaxed, Flowing and Romantic
Bride Lauren wore a delicate lace wedding gown from Grace Loves Lace. With a free-flowing silk chiffon skirt and beautiful delicate details, its soft feminine accents were perfect. The bridesmaids dresses (by Aritzia) were also very feminine and flowy, perfect for an outdoor wedding by the ocean.
Lauren’s hair was worn down and natural with romantic tresses that flowed down with slight waves, accented with white orchids in her hair. Hair and make-up were done by Jean Muldoon.
Wedding Inspiration
“Stu and I were very relaxed when it came to wedding planning. Luckily, we had our amazing event planner, Denise, to guide us with the process and bring our vision to life – it was truly beyond what I could have even imagined.”
Sweet Ceremony At Sugar Beach
Lauren and Stuart felt especially blessed and truly grateful to have their close family friend come to Maui from Vancouver to conduct their ceremony and marry them. It made it that much more special, having someone so dear to them be such an important part of their day.
The traditional Hawaiian lei exchange was incorporated into the ceremony, and when the rings were exchanged, the officiant (and dear friend) spoke such touching words about Stu’s father (who had passed away), and the wedding ring that was passed down to Stu from his father ~ A beautiful memory of his Dad.

First Dance Under The Maui Stars
After dinner and dessert, our newlyweds had their first dance under the gorgeous stars. The song they chose for their first dance together as husband and wife was ‘Love is a Verb’ by John Mayer.
Once DJ Dan got the music going, the party was ready to move indoors to our Grand Ballroom where they danced to a great range of music from ACDC to Beyonce. The groom even surprised everyone by having the DJ play a song by him and his old band. Everyone was super thrilled!
Let Them Eat Cake
The traditional cake cutting ceremony is when the bride and groom feed each other a small bite of cake. This can be very romantic and sweet symbolizing a commitment to provide for one another and show love or affection.
All of us here at Sugar Beach Events wish Lauren and Stuart a beautiful life together. May their lives continue to be filled with happiness, love and good fortune in all the paths they choose to follow together.
