A Stunning Winter Maui Wedding

DT and Joel's stunning Maui wedding sunset

DT and Joel dreamed of having their wedding in an island paradise – a beautiful sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities that they and most of their family and wedding guests were from. Neither of them had been to Maui before, but after visiting Bliss’s website and seeing the amazing Maui weddings and gorgeous details, their hearts were set. They wanted a relaxing and romantic wedding, intimate and meaningful for their family and friends. Darren and Shane of Bliss worked closely with DT and Joel to bring to life the wedding of their dreams, classy and elegant, simple and beautiful, light, airy and dreamy… earthy and spiritual and fun. “And we got exactly what we wanted. We wouldn’t change a thing.”

They decided on their specific wedding date of December 18th, since it is also their anniversary date of when they first became a couple. They knew that having a Winter wedding could be challenging weather-wise, and it was pouring rain for three straight weeks right up until their wedding day, when suddenly it cleared up and the winds died down — Mother Nature’s gift to this special couple. To top it all off, with the dramatic clouds came a glorious sunset. It couldn’t have been planned any better!

The wedding was actually supposed to take place at a different venue, but because of the rain forecast, they needed to change their plans and have their wedding at Sugar Beach Events. As DT later mentioned, our venue ended up being even more perfect for their color palette than their previous venue and guests loved the large indoor and outdoor spaces. “The beach side backyard and the estate-like exterior made it feel like a home, while the indoor space felt like a grand ballroom where everyone could have fun and let loose. We were able to have both worlds.”

A light driftwood arch beautifully adorned with hydrangea, larkspur, blue thistle and white orchid stems was stunning for the ceremony. It is these kinds of details, thought out carefully, that added so much beauty to the day. For the exchanging of vows, DT and Joel decided on reading their vows from 5×7 scrolls with grey finials; which makes for a wonderful keepsake for the many anniversaries to come.

Special Wedding Details

A nice touch for the guests were personalized fans that were inscribed with DT and Joel’s hashtag: #dtandjoel121816. Each guest also received a shot glass, which was a perfect gift since the couple has an amazing shot glass collection from all the different places they have been while traveling.

After a spectacular sunset, one of the best we’ve ever seen, the party moved indoors into the Grand Ballroom for dinner and dancing. DT and Joel wanted to have as much periwinkle blue as possible that they even requested blue champagne for the toasts and a blue velvet wedding cake which Chef Lee happily granted.

The celebration ended with amazing Polynesian entertainment, from a hula lesson to a thrilling fire knife dancer. It was a wedding full of love, laughter and fun. We wish a lifetime of the same for our newlyweds, DT and Joel.
